Blackbird Window & Door LLC is a Colorado based company which is rooted in the belief that windows (and glass doors) are the single most important elements in fine architectural design. Windows are the intermediary between the indoors and outdoors, and have the potential to uplift the human spirit. Choosing the right window brand is an important start, but getting the myriad of details correctly designed and ordered can be overwhelming. Blackbird is here to help!
With over 90 years of combined experience in the architectural and construction industries, and 25 years specifying and detailing windows, the team at Blackbird has the knowledge base and the passion to help you get it right the first time.
Meet the Founders
Bert Middleton has devoted his life for the past 25 years to bringing best-fit fenestration solutions to the architects and general contractors who are creating the most stunning high-end custom homes in the Rocky Mountains. Bert has represented every major brand of window in America over the course of his career, and also several brands of European windows. With this level of industry cross-training, Bert is in a unique position to bring practical suggestions to his clients for how best to accomplish their professional goals. Bert’s devoted repeat customers will be the first to tell you that (a) Bert is a man who does what he says he’s going to do, and (b) does not shy away when the going gets tough. Bert is your go-to window partner from start to finish to make sure the windows in your projects are a source of pride and joy for you and your clients.
Sharon Porter brings a depth of knowledge and breath of multidisciplinary experience to the Blackbird team. As a licensed architect of 30 years, having worked primarily with high-end residential clients, Sharon honed the skills of manifesting architectural vision and solving problems with creative flair. Sharon also owned and operated a design-build company for several years, wherein she filled the role of general contractor. Being a GC gave Sharon a strong focus on practicality — she knows the importance of selecting/specifying window systems which will stand the test of time. Sharon’s past architectural and design-build customers will tell you that Sharon has a personal commitment to excellence that far exceeds expectations. Being very detail oriented by nature, Sharon is tireless in her pursuit of thoroughness, for the purpose of wanting the outcomes of her work efforts to flow forward as efficiently as possible and shine with delight.
About Sunglass Window•Door
Sun Glass was founded in Farmington NM in 1952, and since 2008 has been proudly owned and operated by Cliff Freemen (father) and Clint Freeman (son). Over the last two decades, via acquisition of several well-established glass shops in neighboring communities, Sun Glass now owns and operates branches in Durango CO, Cortez CO, Pagosa Springs CO, and Montrose CO. Today, Sun Glass day to day management is expertly handled by Andy Spruell, VP of Operations.
Currently Sun Glass is solidifying its newest branch location in Montrose CO by serving the communities of Aspen, Crested Butte, Telluride, and Moab. Sun Glass is also providing window sales and installation services throughout the northern Utah communities of Park City, and the greater Salt Lake City region
Following an intentional strategic growth plan, over the decades Sun Glass has positioned itself to competently provide the following logistical operations safely and efficiently:
Logistics - expertise in the selection of trucking and shipping partners for transport of windows, doors and glass.
Receiving - manpower and equipment ready via loading docks at the multiple warehouses Sun Glass owns.
Warehousing - safe, secure and well-organized storage of products until customers are ready to receive delivery.
Delivery - transport of products to customer, in right-size trucks for accessing difficult mountainous jobsites.
Installation - A window is only as good as it is installed! Sun Glass not only has well-trained installation personnel, but also a vast array of specialized equipment for handling the toughest of jobsite conditions.
Service - Sun Glass stands ready to respond quickly and courteously to all follow up service calls.

Meet the Installers
James Wignall is the lead installer for Blackbird Window and Door. With his team of a dozen skilled technicians, and a bevy of specialized glass installation equipment, James has accomplished installation of complex large glass systems at difficult terrain jobsites on some of the most exclusive homes in the Rockies. James holds window and door installation certificates from Reynaers Belgium for their most exacting products, and he also is trained and experienced in installations following the standards of AAMA, ASTM, and FGIA.
